Seventy nurses and 10 doctors will be assigned to hospitals under HA, while the Chinese medicine experts will participate in clinical training work on integrated Chinese-Western medicine in different hospitals.

About 80 healthcare professionals from Guangdong Province are participating in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Healthcare Talents Visiting Programmes, and arrived in Hong Kong on 17 April 2023.

Together with seven doctors, two Chinese medicine experts who arrived earlier, and another Chinese medicine expert who arrived in Hong Kong on 18 April, the aim is to uplift the level of the healthcare sector in Hong Kong and the Mainland through professional exchanges in Hong Kong over the course of a year or so.

Henry Fan, Chairman of the Hospital Authority (HA), shared that this marks an important milestone in the exchanges between Hong Kong and Mainland healthcare professionals. Healthcare professionals with rich experience in different medical fields from both places will be learning from each other to achieve mutual benefits.

Seventy nurses will be assigned to different hospitals in the seven clusters under the HA to exchange knowledge on different nursing expertise areas and clinical work. The 10 doctors have been approved by the Medical Council of Hong Kong to practice with limited registration. They will be assigned to exchange and participate in clinical work in the hospitals of the three clusters, which are the Kowloon Central Cluster, Kowloon West Cluster and New Territories West Cluster.

As for the two Chinese medicine experts who came to Hong Kong at the end of last year, and another Chinese medicine expert who arrived in Hong Kong yesterday, they will continue participating in clinical training work on integrated Chinese-Western medicine in different hospitals.

In the face of a serious manpower shortage, the HA announced a series of Greater Bay Area (GBA) Healthcare Talents Exchange Programmes last September, with the aim to strengthen the integration of medical services in Hong Kong and the Mainland, foster the development of the healthcare sector between the two places, and broaden the talent pool in GBA in the long run.

The HA said it will continue to capitalise on Greater Bay Area development opportunities and attract talent through various channels to improve the standard of medical services in Hong Kong for the benefit of patients.
